Q & A’s with The Musical Dōc

Who is The Musical Doc?

I’m a singer, songwriter, performer, I play various instruments, I produce, I do my own visual graphic designs, editing, marketing, and branding. I am also the founder of TMD Studios LLC a creative space for music education and the performing arts; certified as an official vendor with a state of California Charter school. I also come in as a consultant for other businesses and help with production or strategy development. I have also received my credentials from Columbia Business School for Digital media strategies, which has also been very helpful in application to my music and brand development.

Origin of your artist name:

I was originally a medical doctor who then decided to switch careers and follow my dreams and aspirations in music. I always say music led me to medicine and medicine brought me back to music. It will always be a part of who I am and the journey I have embarked on thus for to get to where I am. I had to go against everything I knew and was raised to know in order live to reality of everything I knew I was capable  and in my opinion born to be.  I am very blessed to be surrounded with an amazing group of people that I learn from every day and work as hard as I do to bring my voice and vision to life. Together We Rise!

Where are you from?

Los Angeles, California

Has music always been a part of your life?

Honestly, I identified with music before my own name. I was born into a family of musicians; my parents are both connoisseurs of South Indian Classical Carnatic Music and have one of the largest Indian music schools in the United States. I started learning singing from the age of two from my mother and piano and Veena (South Indian classical string instrument) from my father. By the time I was about four years old I was already performing on stage with my parents, and by the age of six, I gave my first full-fledged two-hour concert. Music has always a huge part of my everyday life. I had the honor to tour in Australia, perform at the Sydney opera house and other amazing events and festivals at venues such as Walt Disney Concert Hall, LA Carnegie Hall, NY The Hollywood Bowl, etc

Do you think your upbringing has contributed to your style as an artist?

Not only was I born into a family of musicians, but I also traveled a lot. I’ve lived in different countries, and although I was always surrounded by people because of the nature of my upbringing, I was always kind of a loaner and enjoyed being alone or with nature… “The Blacksheep” if you will. I always felt I had this higher calling from the sounds and vibrations of the world in this realm and beyond…disconnect to reconnect. I love adding inspiration from my life experiences, not just lyrically but also in my production, vocal technique, melodies Etc. I would have to say my vocal prowess definitely comes from vigorous classical music training since before I could remember.

Are you working on any new music right now?

I just released my new single and Music video titled “Nobody” the video is available on my Youtube channel and the record is available on all major streaming platforms.

Are there any artists or producers you’d love to work with?

I would love to have the opportunity to collaborate with any artists/producers I vibe with  sonically, lyrically and beyond. Energy and vibrations are a real thing and I think creating with energies you really align with through the universe is when some of the best music and relationships are made. Some of my dream collaborations include: Kendrick Lamar, Post Malone, Cardi B, Beyonce, Billie Eilish, Masego, producers/musicians from the collective 1500 or Nothin, Larrance Dopson, Dj Snake, Diplo, Kanye West, Tom Misch, Metro boomin, Troy Carter, Dj Khaled.

Words of Wisdom

Be Unapologetically YOU. My journey is almost an oxymoron, every experience, my background, my journey, my trials and tribulations should have been enough reasons as to why I shouldn’t  have gone in the direction of my dreams…but it’s also every reason and the reason why I SHOULD and NEEDED to walk my path with purpose. You have to be willing to do what most people aren’t going to want to do. You have to be willing to push boundaries, drop comforts, and fight for your vision. Battling your own demons and keeping them in check while staying conscious of reality and the reality you are building towards. Your self-discipline and mental willpower is everything. It’s so easy to get caught up with the noise and clutter of this industry and the world we live in general…but KEEP YOUR BLINDERS ON. Don’t compare your lane or journey with anyone! My story, experiences, vision, hustle are like no one I know, hence I can’t compare my power moves internally or externally with anyone else. Stay humble and hungry.
