I am Saneit. I actually recently changed my artist name from Saneit Monae, Monae being my middle name to just using my first name. I realized how powerful and unique my name was and had to let my middle name go. I want to stand out and not be compared as much, because we can probably name a lot of artists with the name Monae, but you can’t name another Saneit.
Where are you from?
I am from Chicago, Illinois. The west side to be exact.
Describe the biggest obstacle you’ve had to overcome as an artist?
The biggest obstacle I’ve had to overcome as an artist is understanding who I am and what I bring to my genre. Finding my sound and constantly developing it has been a lot of work. I listen to the first music I released back and 2015 and truly appreciate myself for being so diligent. As an artist you’re always hard on yourself, but I try not to beat myself up and look at everything as a learning experience. There’s so much room for me to grow and I don’t mind taking risks.
How have you developed your career?
It’s still developing. One of my greatest skills is networking. I’ve never been afraid to speak to anyone. I’ve always been outspoken and bubbly. I can make a stranger feel like they’ve known me for a long time. Most of my career development is because of my personality. I make connections with people and I maintain my relationships.
When do your ideas come to you?
My ideas usually come to me when I’m having conversations, because I’ll say something and think “Wow, this could be a song!” Ideas also, come to me a lot of times when I’m playing around with my friends.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
My biggest musical influences are Whitney Houston, Monica, Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliot just to name a few. However, I am influenced by so many more other artists and songwriters.
Where can we expect to see you in 5 years?
I wish I could say, but I truly have no idea where this journey is leading me to. I just hope I never lose my passion and that I’m way better than what I could even imagine. I hope to always be hungry and continue to be a hard worker. I’m very excited about my future. I’ve always wanted to have a career in music and entertainment in general.
