Writer, composer, spoken word poet, performer, Ro Joaquim is part of the new wave of Toronto artists. After releasing his debut single ‘Touchdown’, Ro Joaquim has now followed up with a 6 track eclectic EP titled ‘WATER FIGHTS’. For the artist who was once apprehensive about singing, 2019 is set to be there year his voice will be heard.
My favorite song I have written is a song called Night Life Lights performed by Nick Nikon. This song takes an in depth look at the life of a public figure, and humanizes them. I love this song because I feel a lot of celebrities will be able to relate to it. Typically musicians make songs that relate to the people’s experiences rather than having the people relate to them.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
Nat King Cole, Tupac Shakur, and Russ.
How have you developed your career?
I started writing songs for artist, after about 5 years of waiting for this song to clear, and that song to be released, I decided to pursue my own artistry with the help of my team at Division 88.
What is your biggest release to date?
My biggest release to date is my debut EP ‘Water Fights’. A diverse mix of styles, genres and cultures are represented in the EP.
